The research employed sophisticated latent class analysis to categorize participants into five distinct lifestyle patterns: stable healthy, stable moderately healthy, stable minimally healthy, worsened, or improved. Those maintaining minimally healthy patterns showed dramatically higher rates of BMI category progression—34.9% transitioned to higher weight categories compared to just 15.9% among consistently healthy individuals. The scale of weight change proved striking: overweight prevalence more than doubled from 12% to 26%, while obesity rates quadrupled from 2% to 8% across the follow-up period.
