The review, published in a German child and adolescent psychiatry journal and serving as the scientific basis for a major professional society position statement, synthesizes current research across three age cohorts: ages 0–5, 6–13, and 14–18. Across all groups, intensive media use showed associations with disrupted sleep architecture, attentional difficulties, and reduced academic performance. In early childhood, language development emerged as a notable area of concern. Among adolescents, the evidence points toward links between heavy internet use and behavioral addiction patterns, including problematic internet use disorder, alongside broader mental health deterioration.
