This conversation reflects a growing body of epidemiological literature, including a landmark 2023 analysis in BMJ Oncology covering 204 countries, which found early-onset cancers in 14 types rising globally. The mechanisms remain incompletely understood, which is a critical limitation — without clearer causal pathways, translating findings into actionable prevention is difficult. The discussion also surfaces an underappreciated tension in screening policy: lowering the colorectal screening age to 45 (as U.S. guidelines now recommend) is a meaningful step, but implementation gaps remain large.
