The FDA formally added bemotrizinol to its permitted list of active sunscreen ingredients — the first new addition since the 1990s. Bemotrizinol's photostability is notably superior to older filters like avobenzone, which degrades rapidly in sunlight and requires chemical stabilizers. Its long international track record partially offsets the usual concern about single-study or limited-cohort approvals, making this a more confident step than a brand-new compound would represent.
